Maha Shivaratri: Worshipping Lord Shiva

Maha Shivatri is one of the auspicious occasion of Hindus. It is celebrated on the 13th night/14th day in the Krishna Paksha ,i.e.night before and day of the full moon which falls on the month of Magh or Falgun according to tithi (in Hindus calendar). This day is celebrated as a day of Lord Shiva, the Destroyer of Evil. People celebrate by visiting temples, worshiping,  fasting, singing and dancing in group and by offering Bael patta(Leaves), milk and sandal to Lord Shiva.

Pashupatinath temple is one of the sacred temple in Nepal. It is located in eastern part of Nepal. Shivaratri is celebrated as one of the biggest festival. People from all over the country and also from India visit Pashupatinath to celebrate this day with full devotion and enthusiasm.


A week before the grand day, you will see the whole area is crowded by Sadhu and Bikshus camp. Saints awaited whole year for this propitious day to get blessings of Lord Shiva. Not only religiously but commercially also you will get this area over crowded. Traders from Nepal and India comes over to sell different assets.

Some unusual aspect are also practiced on the following day. Its free to get intoxicated in Shivaratri. You can easily get toxic product like Marijuana, Bhang and all. Its taken as Lord Shiva prasad (holy food) by follower and non-follower.
